Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui has emphasized the importance of passing knowledge from the Cuban healthcare system to Kenya.
Speaking on Tuesday when he received two Cuban doctors Mayroliz Benitez Rodriguez, a family physician and Dr. Yanelys Herrera Soto, a cardiologist, Kinyanjui said it will be a win if Kenyan doctors learn from the two.
“We would like to learn the culture of preventing diseases as opposed to only seeking treatment when we are sick," said Kinyanjui.
While thanking the Cuban doctors for agreeing to be part of the 100 doctors that will be in the country for the next two years, Kinyanjui said his administration will do all it can to ensure the foreign doctors settle well.
“We shall do everything to ensure that you settle well and that your stay is comfortable,” Kinyanjui said.
The county health chief officer Dr Samuel Mwaura said the county is in talks with neighboring counties to organize an exchange program so that the county can be served by different specialists.
“The doctors at the referral hospital are excited to receive the Cuban doctors and are eager to learn from them,” Mwaura said.
Also present was Deputy Governor Dr Eric Korir, acting Health CECM Mr Festus Ng'eno, director of medical services Dr Solomon Sirma, Nakuru County Referral Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Joseph Mburu among other health officials.
