Opposition chief Raila Odinga remains the ultimate political figure in the entire Kisumu County which is dominated by his most committed followers.
The county is yet to get enough of his despite having been the kingpin of the entire Nyanza region since the death of his father and founding Vice President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga in 1994.
Consequently, Raila's tours to Kisumu have always seen the town come to a standstill for some hours and people line up along the roads he is expected to use to receive him.
This sees businesses come to a halt and the streets get a sudden limp of life as people gather to see the man whose voice shakes the nation whenever he speaks.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader receives presidential reception whenever he visits, despite being a common citizen as far as the constitution is concerned.
Consequently, he is usually received at the airport by Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang' Nyong'o or his deputy Mathews Owilli and a host of other leaders from the county.
When he attends public functions, he is usually given the most honourable chair as a proof that he is a respected person in that part of the nation.
It is also worth noting that most of his roadside public addresses whenever he visits are not usually deliberate and is on most occasions forced by the people to address them.
And being the leader he is, and a man who has largely benefited from the Kisumu vote and backing in his four futile presidential bids, he gladly does it.
The county is yet to know if the African Union Infrastructure Development Envoy will once again need its help in 2022, as he remains silent on his future presidential plans.
