Deputy President William Ruto was in no mood for politics as he toured Funyula Constituency in Busia County on Saturday.

The DP who joined Catholic leaders, politicians and residents during an event for the Rites of Ordination of Deacons and Priests at the Canadian Martyrs Church, Nangina, chose to punctuate his statements by quoting a bible verse.

“I want to tell you one thing as a Christian. The Bible teaches us in Mathew 6:33. It says, ‘But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well’. (Mimi nataka tu niwaambie jambo moja kama Mkristo. Bibilia inatufundisha katika Mathayo 6:33. Inasema kwamba tafuteni kwanza ufalme wa Mungu na haki yake, na mambo haya mengine yote mtaongezewa,” he said as residents applauded him.

That verse is perhaps one of the DP’s favorite in the Bible, after quoting it over and over again.

He continued, “That is why we have no apologies for standing with the Church because we know God. The Bible tells us that do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Read Mathew 6:19-21. (Na ndio hatuna aibu na hatuombi msahama kwa kusimama na kanisa, kwa sababu tunamjua Mungu. Na Bibilia inatuambua wekeni hazina yenu mahali nondo na mchwa haitakula na wezi hawavunji na kuiba. Kwa sababu pale akiba yako ilipo ndipo moyo wako uta kapokuwa. Soma Mathayo 6:19-21,” Ruto said as another round of applause followed him.
