The succession politics within Mt Kenya region continues to take shape with at least 34 months before the retirement of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Politicians from Mt Kenya region are realigning themselves ahead of 2022 polls, with no clear heir of President Uhuru Kenyatta available.
Political analyst Gabriel Muthuma however, believes that Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri is the right man to take over from President Uhuru Kenyatta as Mt Kenya kingpin.
“In my view, Kiunjuri brings about a level of experience that few politicians have in Mt Kenya. He has a knack on the political language that sets him apart from the rest. He knows how to work the crowd. A key component when it comes to leadership,” Muthuma says as quoted by the Star.
Mr Muthuma however, cautions that Kiunjuri should use his docket to solve farming challenges in Mt Kenya region for him to position himself well.
“Key among the deficit that he may face while servicing as CS Agriculture is the economic beating that coffee, tea and miraa has taken in the Central region,” he said.
While President Uhuru Kenyatta banned instances of ministers involving themselves in politics, Kiunjuri has however been attending some.
In July this year, he warned that Central Kenya could be alienated in a couple of years to come if they fail to unite.
“The Kikuyu community needs to remember that leaders are meant to bring their tribesmen together. They are the pillars that hold the house together. If they continue fighting, the community will be scattered,” he warned.
