Political undertones are slowly starting to punctuate the upcoming Migori Senatorial by-election after the area Governor Okoth Obado dismissed the recently Raila Odinga brokered truce between him and former Rongo MP Ochillo Ayacko during the burial of the late Senator Ben Oluoch Okello.
In what many expected to be the end of the deep rooted political rivalry between the duo which reached fever pitch during the 2017 gubernatorial contest where Obado triumphed, the defiant Governor has now disowned the handshake saying it was just like any other greeting.
The handshake saw Ayacko move to Court to withdraw his petition against the Governor’s election in what was seen as a calculated move to get his backing in the senatorial contest.
"That was a mere greeting just like you can greet any visitor from Tanzania. It had no political significance," said Obado as quoted by the Standard.
Already, the Governor’s move has rattled ODM ranks with Chairman John Mbadi firing the first blow.
For now, Obado is a marked man with many accusing him of disrespecting Raila who ensured that they buried the hatchet.
With this new development, it remains unclear whether Obado who just rejoined ODM in the run to the 2017 election will survive.
In the past, he proved to be a shrewd politician and survived without the Orange party. Will he do it again? Or will he finally be consigned into the political dustbin?
