There have been talks about the possibility scenario of Uhuru clinging to power, with activists linking his push for constitutional changes as a back door means of remaining active.

On Wednesday, Uhuru insisted that he has no such intentions, adding that he does not have any secret succession agreement with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

"He (Raila) has never told me he wants to be president in 2022. I have also not told him I want to continue to be president after 2022. We have just been talking about issues that affect our people,” said Uhuru.

“When it comes to infrastructure, what do we need to do? And we discuss and we support each other and agree. When it comes to health, this is what we need to do. What is this issue of digitising our records and what is it all about. We sit, we discuss, and we agree,” Uhuru said.

The Head of State lauded ODM leader Raila Odinga's commitment in supporting his agenda, adding that he's been instrumental in helping him shape his policies in running of the country.

He added: “Raila also gives me ideas that enhance something and make it even better. Now what's wrong with that?"

Constitutionally, Uhuru would exit power in 2022, having served his second term as president. The impending referendum is said to be focusing on changing leadership structure according to COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli.
