Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has described the reassignment of Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed in the latest mini Cabinet reshuffle as a demotion.
President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday moved Amina from Education docket to Sports, Culture and Heritage ministry that was previously held by Rashid Echesa who was sacked under unclear circumstances.
Amina, a renowned diplomat, served as the CS in charge of foreign Affairs during Uhuru's first term.
"I think Amina Mohamed has been demoted. How can you leave the Foreign Service, come down to Education then now Sports?" posed Ole Kina during a political show aired by Citizen TV on Monday.
The ODM Senator claimed the former Education Minister was relegated after she allegedly committed unforgivable blunders during her tenure at the helm of Jogoo House.
He quoted her proposal to use National Police Service to track down Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) loan defaulters and force them to pay their debts.
"In my view, there are certain things that she Amina did that are completely unforgivable. When you start penalizing poverty then it begs the question as to really where your priorities are," Ole Kina stated.
Echoing similar sentiments, Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang' said Amina had no achievement to show as Education boss, adding the ministry was transformed by former CS Fred Matiang'i.
"Amina Mohamed was in education for under a year so it was long enough for whatever initiative she had to bear fruit, in fact to a greater extent, the things she is taking credit for are seeds that were planted by the predecessor," Kajwang' said during the same show.
Amina was replaced by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) chairman and former University of Nairobi Vice Chancellor Prof. George Magoha.
