A Jubilee legislator now blames Deputy President William Ruto of allegedly promoting fear and paranoia among Mt Kenya voting block through Kalenjin Elders.
Nyeri Town legislator Ngunjiri Wambugu insists that the recent press conference by Rift Valley elders was planned by Ruto to scare the Mt Kenya community in what he calls intimidation.
He said: "The Kalenjin Council of Elders are basically telling Kenyans that if Mt Kenya does not pay Ruto’s ‘debt’ in 2022 Kenya will suffer violence (in Rift Valley) similar to what we had in 2007/2008; what they are calling ‘skirmishes’.Clearly we must revisit this 2007 & 2008 skirmishes issue in 2019, and get closure on it.
"We cannot keep getting threatened by some Kenyans with the repeat of a past that they insist was spontaneous, for votes. It’s unacceptable.#TutikuenderioGuoya#HatunaDeni#Kitaeleweka." https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=2190848767835446&id=1454453538141643
For the past one week, wrangles have intensified in Jubilee Party with Vice Chair David Murathe openly dismissing Ruto's ambitions. Days later, another Jubilee power broker Maina Kamanda, reiterated Murathe's remarks.
Despite the escalating wrangles, President Uhuru Kenyatta has chosen to remain mum even though he discouraged media from dwelling on succession politics during his End Year address.
