Using boulders and stones, they blocked the way causing a snarl up of tractors ferrying sugarcane.

They lamented that their attempts to have the repairs done have been futile and are now calling upon either the Kisumu County Government or the national leadership to intervene.

According to them, both levels of government have refused to take charge, each distancing itself from the burden.

“We do not know what is happening. All agencies we have approached say they are not responsible,” Josephine Gowi, a resident, told the Standard.

Job Ochieng', another resident, said that the road has turned very dusty, sending away businesspeople who were operating along it.

"Even the women who sell chips and other roadside foods have been forced to leave the area because of the poor condition of the road,” he said.

The County Executive Committee member for roads confirmed the same but said that the county is not to blame for the bad state of the road.

He claimed that the road falls under the Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA).
