Deputy President William Ruto has remained tight-lipped about the question of his 2022 running-mate.
It is a question that he did not talk about when he descended on Garissa County this week to launch development project.
Even so, many Kenyan-Somalis would wish for him to pick from among their midst.
In the minds of many, Duale would be the DP's best pick given the Garissa Township's stature in the Somali community.
Duale has proved himself to be a leader of national appeal; he is doubtlessly a household name in Kenya and a force to reckon with in national politics.
Thanks to his political skills, Jubilee gained the instruments of power to steer national affairs through the election of Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto.
As Ruto grapples with the question of who to pick as his running-mate, he should give Duale serious consideration.
The North Eastern region stood with Jubilee in 2013 and 2017 and the least the DP can do to show his appreciation for the overwhelming support is pick Duale.
The move will assure him of the Somali vote which will be critical in 2022.
