ODM candidate in the Kibra by-elections Imran Okoth has continued to receive massive support from politicians after Machakos Deputy governor Francis Maliti supported his candidature.
His support comes a few days after a section of Jubilee politicians announced that they will support Imran despite the party fielding a candidate.
The deputy governor who is a Maendeleo Chap Chap party member, however, clarified that it is not the stand of the party to support Imran but a personal decision.
“This is my position but not my party position, My position is that we should support the ODM candidate in the Kibra by-elections to continue with what the former MP was doing to the people of Kibra”, Francis said.
Speaking during a radio interview with a local radio station Maliti said that Maendeleo Chap Chap is not fielding a candidate in the by-elections because the candidate presented his papers to the party late.
“Our Party has not fielded a candidate in Kibra because the candidate presented his papers late so we could not process his papers in time,” Maliti added.
The Deputy Governor believes that ODM is the only party which understands the people of Kibra and their needs since they have been controlling the constituency for long.
Maliti’s support comes at a time when the Jubilee candidate in the Kibra elections McDonald Mariga has been barred by IEBC after it emerged that his name does not appear in the voter register.
