Angry residents on Friday engaged police in running battles after they barricaded the Kitale-Webuye Highway at Kiminini Market as a way of registering their disapproval.

They accused the police of failing to prosecute the officers involved in the rape of the three women, claiming that they were released from custody at the Kiminini Police Station.

“We are demanding for justice because police failed to charge the suspects as required by law," said Richard Situma, one of the residents.

One of the victims claimed that the three officers broke into her house in Masaba at midnight and raped her, with the group being suspected of raping the two remaining women.

She said that the officers, also armed, as well stole her household items, one of whom her husband recognized before she reported the matter at the station.

“My husband had recognised the face of one of the police reservists he is popular in this area," she said.

An officer aware of the progress of the matter said that though investigations implicated the three, the matter was interfered with by some top police bosses in the area.

The residents now want area County Commissioner to intervene.
