Members of the Nairobi County Assembly (MCAs) have called for calm among residents, as Governor Mike Sonko battles his corruption allegations in court.
The governor was arrested on Friday, after which he was detained over claims of presiding over graft and receiving millions in kickbacks.
The ward reps, led by Majority Leader Charles Thuo said Sonko's arrest has not affected county operations in any way, adding that operations have been running smoothly.
He called for calm and order among residents, especially supporters of the governor who might not be happy with the ongoing happenings in the city, advising them against demonstrations.
"Everyone is innocent until proven guilty and we plead with Nairobi people, even those who are supporters of the governor, not to engage in any demonstrations and to observe peace,” he said on Wednesday.
Thuo said as the legislative arm, they will handle their operations as is expected of them, calling for the same from the executive arm, under Sonko.
“As MCAs we shall execute our role and we also expect the executive to play its role to ensure that there is continuity of services offered to Nairobians,” he added.
Sonko's arrest has left behind confusion on the fate of the city, given that until his arrest, the county boss had no deputy, following the resignation of Polycarp Igathe
