Elijah Kagiri road acts as a passage route to Makongeni road and bypass road users. The stretch is sandwiched between Starehe estate and Kimilili garage in Thika. A few years ago residents were elated after the stretch was tarmacked. Now it's attracting strange attention from passers-by and residents.

For over two weeks now, record-breaking garbage lies uncollected. The sight is annoying and causing an eyesore.

Pedestrians have to swerve off the stretch that is leaving a bad taste in their mouths.

While peaking to Hivisasa exclusively, on 14th December 2019 the residents claim that someone is sleeping on their job.

"Somebody is sleeping on his job, we have been neglected or forgotten because other neighbourhoods are okay," Mary Njeri a resident notes.

Jack Onyango is not happy because the stretch he uses daily to Mount Kenya University is in dilapidated conditions. "The stretch is in a mess, worst is that we are in a rainy season," he said.

"We are in the third week now and nothing has been done. We are calling upon municipal workers to serve us quickly before this rains bring diseases." Patrick Wambua a mechanic added.

The uncollected garbage threatens to swell as it is now acting as a magnet for flies. The waste is a collection of food remains, used diapers, nylon papers among other recyclable plastics.

Careless disposal of waste materials has been associated with flooding in some towns or blocked sewerage lines as well. Open waste is hazardous to human lives resulting in disease outbreaks like cholera.

Elijah Kagiri stretch is famous for its hot cake garage business thanks to the rising number of good mechanics.
