Interior Cabinet secretary Fred Matiang'i has been asked to spare boda boda riders in the ongoing crackdown on motorists aimed at implementing the famous Michuki rules.
According to Ex-South Mugirango MP Manson Nyamweya, police officers are taking advantage of the implementation of the famous Michuki rules to harass riders.
"Unnecessary arrests being witnessed not only in Gusii region but also across the country must stop. There is need for Matiang'i to order police to spare riders failure to which we will witness fights between officers and riders," he noted.
Nyamweya noted that police manning roadblocks should inspect PSVs and stop soliciting for bribes from poor motorists.
He asked Matiang'i to drop his hard stance on riders because most riders could join criminal gangs due to strict road rules.
"Cases of theft will rise if riders will be forced to stop operating the bodaboda business. Matiang'i's tough rules will cause harm to residents since riders will turn to be thieves," said the Ex-MP.
He urged police across Gusii region to stop harassing riders but, instead embrace peaceful ways to ensure the riders are slowly adhering to the road rules.
