ODM party leader who is also Kenya's opposition chief Raila Odinga, marked his 74th birthday in a colourful ceremony in Mombasa.
Raila who is AU's special envoy for Infrastructure Development, celebrated his birthday in a party that was attended by Mombasa leaders on Monday, January 7, at Governor Ali Hassan Joho's office.
"I am grateful for the privilege of having studied under your political tutelage. You have taught us courage and resilience in the face of difficult circumstances. And we have learnt to make peace where peace is necessary," said Joho in his message to Odinga.
"Happy Birthday to you on your 74th birthday, dear party leader, Rt Hon Raila Odinga. May you see many more. And in the years to come, may you continue to change the country for the better," he added.
Several leaders including Mombasa Senator Mohammed Faki, Deputy Governor Dr William Kingi, Likoni MP Mishi Mboko, Mombasa County Woman Representative Halima Mohammed among others were also present where they shared a birthday cake.
"Happiest Birthday your Excellency Rt Hon Raila Amollo Odinga. You are a source of inspiration to many of us in this generation. May God continue to light your path in your pursuit for the greatness of this country," said Mboko.
Later in the day, President Uhuru Kenyatta organised another party for Odinga and his family at State House Mombasa and left him a birthday message saying: "Happy Birthday to you my brother Raila Odinga. You've demonstrated great statesmanship in your willingness to join me in uniting and developing our country for the good of all Kenyans. Our wish is for Kenya to have peace and to prosper through unity. God bless you on this special day."
Here, leaders such as Mvita MP Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir, Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi, Mboko, Joho and Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko were present.
