Kesses Member of Parliament Dr Swarup Mishra has dismissed a narrative being propagated by a section of opposition politicians that the Mt. Kenya region will not support deputy president William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.
Mishra says the relationship between the Kalenjin and Mt. Kenya people is very strong and none of them can abandon the other.
Speaking in Eldoret town on Friday, the Jubilee MP asked politicians allied to the opposition chief Raila Odinga to stop speculating over the matter.
"Who said Kikuyu's will not vote for DP Ruto in 2022? This is a baseless speculation that seeks to divide the two communities which have enjoyed a good relationship since 2013," he said.
The first-time legislator further pointed out that President Uhuru Kenyatta and the DP had an agreement in 2013 which still exists.
“Why are people politicking over the matter and yet the president and his deputy have not have not at any point talked about it. The 21013 MoU still stands and the president will support the DP as his successor in 2022," said Mishra.
He further cautioned the opposition leaders against sabotaging DP's state house bid insisting that he is their preferred candidate.
Ever since the famous handshake between President Kenyatta and Odinga, there have been fears among DP Ruto's camp that there might be a plot to scuttle his 2022 ambitions with opposition leaders on several occasions claiming the Mt. Kenya region will abandon him.
