Uasin Gishu County Assembly on Wednesday passed a motion asking the executive to suspend the ongoing land valuation rolls for the county.
According to the motion mover, Sergoit MCA David Keitany, the exercise will be suspended until public participation has been conducted and approved by Uasin Gishu County Assembly.
Langas MCA Francis Muya who seconded the motion said the ongoing land valuation roll is not taking into consideration subdivisions of the land by original owners.
“The valuation roll which is being investigated as we are speaking in the county headquarter does not capture the real picture of Eldoret Municipality because most plots have been omitted,” said Muya.
He reiterated that public participation must first be done before any exercise is conducted as required by law.
Nominated MCA Leah Mallot who supported the motion said the new valuation roll will raise the land rates to a level that is not affordable to the public.
Kimumu MCA Sarah Malel who presided over the session as the temporary Speaker directed that the resolution of the House should be implemented.
“This County Assembly urges the county government of Uasin Gishu through the Department of Finance and Economic Planning to organize public participation for residents to understand it before starting the process,” said Malel.
