Deputy prèsident William Ruto caused a light moment at Chepnogobob Methodist Church when he started teasing the bishop during a service on Sunday in Kericho county.
The DP who teasingly corrected the bishop on how he had introduced his wife, went along to ask the bishop to be specific and introduce her as his wife and not just any woman as most people from the region would.
"I have listened to you try to introduce your dear wife but I see a little bit of a lot of Kalenjin culture in it. Because you said she is a mother so we don't know if it is your mother," said the DP Ruto.
The DP who is of the Kalenjin origin sarcastically corrected him and told him that he would have said that she was his dear wife or sweetheart making the church burst into laughter.
"The problem with people from this region, all of us don't want to say much. But Bishop when you get to the end you could have said this is my dear. Even if you say my sweetheart there is no problem. Try to reduce this Kalenjin modest, she will feel better," said the DP.
The DP who has come under fire for donating huge sums of money to churches which most claimed to be proceeds of corruption said that he would not stop donating to the spiritual.
Though seeming to be at the centre of a big political battle has been known to create stereotypes even in hostile environments.
