While being interviewed by K24 TV's Anne Kiguta, Sonko said there was an MoU indicating that President Kenyatta will support his deputy after his term ends in 2022.

“I remember we had an MoU that after the president, you (DP) have your ten years or two terms,” said the governor. “So the MoU stands in your opinion?” asked Kiguta. “There was an MoU,” Sonko answered. “I will ask again, is there a written MoU between the president and the deputy president that guarantees……,” Sonko interjects by stating that “An MoU can even be verbal,” to which Kiguta asks “So, what was it verbal or written?” “Both,” Sonko said.

As to whether the governor had seen the said agreement between the two leaders; Sonko said: “I have not seen this document but there was an agreement.”

A section of leaders supporting Ruto's presidential bid have indicated that President Kenyatta promised to support him after he completes his two terms. But the DP is on record stating that nobody owes him anything ahead of the 2022 polls.
