At least 1,000 officers have threatened to move to court should the county government of Nyamira fail to readmit them to the payroll, arguing that the right procedure wasn't used to terminate their employment.
One of the affected worker accused the county government of making unilateral decisions without due processes, adding that they are about to sue the government for withholding their salaries.
According to him, the government had relied on rumours when making the decision, which he insists was made in bad faith without thorough investigations.
"The decision was made in bad faith. We have been prejudiced for no good reason. We must take the matter to court if they cannot solve it. We have dependants and someone should not purport to discriminate against us," said the officer.
Governor John Nyagarama had ordered for crackdown on the payroll, arguing that several people may have been sneaked into the payroll without due process.
Last week, Nyagarama confirmed that several people caught in the saga would not receive their salaries, adding that the county government is ready for a legal battle.
"We cannot continue paying for people illegally recruited. They will not receive salaries. We are ready to deal with them as we look into the matter. We can't continue losing millions," he warned
Top government officials behind the scheme are said to be in a panicking mode. One of them, a source said, has since been transferred to Nairobi Council of Governors offices as the matter is being handled.
