Speaking on Monday to members of the press, the outspoken governing Jubilee party legislator hinted at reasons that might lead him to oppose the report.

The member of parliament made it clear that he would not throw his weight behind a system that gives power to legislators to elect the head of state.

Being a parliamentarian himself, Mr Kuria said that there was the real risk of lawmakers being compromised to elect for Kenyans individuals who do not deserve to occupy the country's top seat.

"But for me, even further, I will never agree to a situation where power, in this country, is exercised by someone who is elected by Parliament, " he said. (1:02-1:11)

There have been concerns and speculation bandied around that one of the recommendations in the BBI report is the introduction of a parliamentary system that will take away the power of electing a head of state from Kenyans and take it to parliamentarians.

A section of politicians especially those allied to Deputy President Dr William Ruto have railed against a parliamentary system, insisting that the power to elect presidents must remain with Kenyans.

Raila Odinga, BBI's chief exponent, has called for patience from Kenyans, saying that no one knows what is in the report.
