Several students of Lamudiac High School in Njoro, Nakuru County are nursing injuries after a scuffle in the school on Saturday took a tribal turn, resulting in a violent clash
It is reported that the fight broke out on Saturday after a student came back to a bed soiled with human waste, after which he blamed it on a specific tribal group and mobilized his 'tribesmen'.
They are said to have acquired crude weapons from the store and beat up members of the ethnic community accused of soiling the bed.
“They beat us up, saying those who are not from their tribe were behind the incident and should leave the school immediately,” said one of the victims.
The assaulted group is said to have as well organized itself for a fight, resulting in a full blown fight that proceeded until late into the night, leaving scores nursing injuries.
The fight resulted in some students escaping from school to their homes, while others sought refuge in people's houses, with the school remaining tense until Monday.
County Director of Education Lawrence Karuntimi confirmed the incident but noted that learning operations will continue.
However, he noted that students have since deserted the school after walking out in solidarity with their suspended colleagues.
“Only five boys had been sent home over the incident, the rest walked out in solidarity,” he said. Only girls remain in school currently.
