A Form Four student has died after drowning in Masinga, Machakos County.
The deceased drowned while swimming in Kithyoko river on Monday.
Confirming the incident, area assistant chief Daniel Muthoka said the boy was swimming with one of his friends when the tragedy struck.
He was a KCSE candidate at Kithyoko secondary school.
"I was called on Monday evening and informed that a male Form Four student had drowned in Kithyoko river," Muthoka said.
Muthoka said that the deceased's friend made a distress call when the latter started drowning.
He spoke to this writer on the phone on Tuesday.
Muthoka said the boy had, however, drowned and died when the locals responded to the distress call.
He said the boys opted for swimming on their way to school on the fateful day.
"The survivor said they had resolved to swim and later proceed to school," Muthoka added.
The body was moved to Matuu Mediance mortuary.
Muthoka urged parents to ensure that they know their children's whereabouts to avoid recurrence of such incidences.
