Taxpayers have a reason to smile after the taxman reduced the processing of Tax Compliance Certificates (TCC's) from days to minutes.
A TCC is a certificate issued by Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) showing the tax payment status of a taxpayer. Its validity lapses after a year and a taxpayer is required to renew it.
The new mode of appliance through the iTax online portal is aimed at boosting the efficiency of the important certificate as it does not require physical service of a KRA staff.
"With the simplified application process in place, there will no longer be intervention by KRA staff in the application and issuance of the document,” reads the statement.
Since it's launch on January 20, 15,000 TCCs have been issued, this means that the new form of issuance is accessible and efficient yo many Kenyans.
Taxpayers with uncleared tax 'debts' will have to clear first or submit a payment plan to KRA via iTax.
"Once the first instalments on the payment plan has been received, the applicants will be required to reapply for a TCC for approval,” added the KRA statement.
KRA warned taxpayers not to delay past the timeline of filing returns since it adds up to non compliance.
It further pointed out that they agency is determined to roll out more programs to ensure that the constitutional mandate of Kenyans is made easier.
