ODM leader Raila Odinga on Sunday night in an interview ended all speculation about his wealth by declaring the net worth of the Odinga family.

When asked how much he is worth, he did not engage the interviewer in games but went ahead to give a direct answer to a direct question.

“People say I’m very rich. I am not rich. I am just about Sh2 billion which we own collectively as the Odinga family,” he said, during his interview with NTV as quoted by the Daily Nation.

As you would expect, Odinga's answer was bound to draw comparisons to the answer that Deputy President Dr William Ruto gave when asked about his wealth about a week ago.

The country's second in command did not give a straight answer, instead he urged the journalist to find the answer to that nagging question for himself not to mention those who have embarked on that quest have only hit a dead end.

"Why is this issue of wealth a very big issue when you have William Ruto. You never ask anybody else. The President said that there will be a law that will be passed for lifestyle audit. The President said that he will be number one and this man William Ruto will be number two so what is the problem?" Ruto said.

From a public perception point of view, Raila Odinga's straight answer puts his possible challenger in the 2022 presidential election, should he run, in a tight spot.

It was a public relations coup for Odinga which in the eye of the public leaves Ruto as a rather dishonest political operator.

The question many would be asking is why the country's second in command found it hard to give a straight answer if he has nothing to hide.
