Appearing before Magistrate Wendy Kagendo of the Nyeri Law Courts on Thursday, Catherine, the first wife of the late governor, denied being involved in any way in the death of her late husband.

Lawyer Martha Waweru, representing Wahome Gakuru’s parents asked Catherine whether she had anything to do with her husband's death.

However, Catherine, shocked by the question, said that she had nothing to do with her husband's death.

“I have never had any interest in killing anyone, including [my now-late husband] Gakuru. My [Christian] faith cannot even allow me to do that,” said Catherine as quoted by K24tv.

She also revealed that she didn't know of her late husbands plan to leave Nyeri to Nairobi thus there was no way she could have arranged to have him killed in a car crash.

Gakuru died from excessive blood loss following a road accident at Kabati area on the Nyeri-Nairobi highway on November 7, 2017.

The car he was being driven in lost control before being pierced by guard rails.

He died at the scene of the accident.

About 10 witnesses will testify into this case that will continue on November 4 and 5, 2019.
