Algier's Mohamed Rabie Meftaah got things rolling for the hosts after just 16 minutes of play, following great footwork from Mouaid Ellafi on the wing.

USM's hopes of qualifying for the next round got an early boost late in the first half, after Gor's goalkeeper David Mapigano bundled over Meftaah, resulting to a penalty, which was converted in the 44th minute.

Things got worse for the visitors late in the first half, as Zakaria Bencha's curler into the top corner hit both posts, before it went in to make it 3-0 for the hosts.

The drama continued in the second half as Gor Mahia piled pressure on the hosts, and were awarded after a Charles Momanyi corner hit Tahar Benkhalifa’a's hand in the USM penalty area.

Gor captain Kenneth Muguna fired in from the spot to get a crucial away goal for the visitors.

The hosts were undone with Zakaria making it two for the night after reacting quickest to slot in a rebound from Mapigano’s save to make it 4-1.

Gor Mahia will now look to get revenge when USM Algier comes to Kenya on 29 September for the second leg of the qualifiers.
