According to area county Police Commander James Mugera, the drug was being ferried on a Toyota Spacio vehicle.

He said that the vehicle driver and passenger escaped on foot after being flagged down by the police at a roadblock.

The police boss added that the product was packed in 90 kilogram bags, totalling to 232 kilograms, and is valued at about Sh4.9 million shillings.

Mugera said that the suspects had defied orders to stop at two roadblocks behind, adding that his officers had been tipped off by the public about the narcotics on transit.

The police have since launched a manhunt for the duo, with Mugera expressing confidence that they will be arrested and subjected to the law.

“Police are looking for the suspects and we are optimistic that they will be apprehended,” he was quoted by the Nation.

He called upon members of the public to aid in the search by offering information, as the police seek to secure the area from all types of criminal activities.

It is suspected that most of the drug is smuggled into the country from the neighbouring Tanzania using private vehicles.
