Leading telecommunication provider Safaricom sacked 43 employees over fraud related cases.
According to its 2018 sustainability report, this was a good indicator because there was a decline in the number of dismissed employees from 52 last year to this year’s 43.
The company stated that the report on sacked employees compiles data from March this year to date.
The entity reports that there was an increment in fraud cases from last year’s 33 to 57 this year.
Additionally, the giant communication facilitator issued ten warnings that could lead to future dismissals.
Safaricom says, in its report, that it is not celebrating cases of fraud amongst its employees but is proud of its ability to detect, investigate and act accordingly.
It further explained that their kind of business and size makes it impossible to reduce these cases to zero, but is ever bettering its detection technology.
However, the kind of offences that led to the dismissals of the affected 43 employees was not revealed to the public.
Meanwhile, Safaricom was awarded yesterday as the overall top taxpayer in the Larger Taxpayer category under Total Taxes paid in the 2017/2018 financial year.
President Uhuru Kenyatta and top Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officials presented the trophy.
