Mbula took to her Facebook account on Tuesday, after the assembly shot down the bill citing that it had a lot of loopholes adding that Dr Ekuru Aukot was only interested in gaining political mileage.

"Makueni County Assembly has rejected Punguza Mzigo Bill. We should not be excited by a Bill which was drafted hurriedly and blindly by someone whose core agenda was to earn political mileage," she wrote.

" When you look at the bill critically, you find that there are so many loopholes that need to be addressed first," she added.

She noted that even if the bill is passed and the wage bill reduced as recommended, the country would still languish in corruption.

"The only Mzigo we should be thinking of how to reduce is corruption, not wage bill. Even if we reduce the number of MPs from 349 to 94 and leave corruption unattended to, it will be a total waste of time."

She said the focus on leaders should be in fighting corruption and not reducing representation.

"We are losing a lot of billions to corruption and that’s where our focus should be as at now. Meanwhile, Punguza Mizigo is a serious joke and a total waste of time," she concluded.

About 10 county assemblies have shot down the bill, the latest being Nairobi and Nakuru county assemblies.
