He attended a women's empowerment programme in Luanda, Vihiga County, which happens to be the backyard of Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi.

During the event, Ruto, who is considered as one of the front runners in the race for the presidency, urged leaders to embrace unity before 2022.

He asked leaders to concentrate on matters of development rather than empty talk. Ruto also said that the unity of purpose will change the lives of millions of Kenyans at the end of the day.

The Kalenjin political kingpin said that leaders must be united to ensure that they achieve the development goals.

“It is only through unity of purpose; building consensus; purposeful engagement and cooperation across the political divide and a focus on project implementation that leaders will ensure a united, indivisible and prosperous nation,” he said.

Ruto is banking on the votes from the Western region to ascend to power. He has been making endless tours to the region as he positions himself to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.

The handshake between Uhuru and ODM leader Raila Odinga is, however, considered one of the major barriers to Ruto’s presidency.
