Orange Democratic Movement party leader Raila Odinga is a leader with humility who never forgets his true soldiers, Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i has said.
Mr Odinga returned to Gusii last Friday during the burial of former Nyaribari Masaba MP Dr Hezron Manduku, where he hailed Abagusii people as hardworking.
The former Prime Minister also recalled his family's ties with the community, noting that at one point, Simeon Nyachae's brother Mr Ayako Nyandusi was staying with Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.
Dr Matiang'i said the former PM has never forgotten the community, adding that he's one of the most truthful leaders Kenya has ever had.
"To be honest, he loves us. He has never let our people down. As a true friend, he usually stands with us and this is quite encouraging to us," he said.
Dr Matiang'i added: "A true friend stands with you when you need him the most. He has demonstrated it to us very many times and we are very much happy."
On Sunday, leaders from across Nyamira continued with their campaigns to have Dr Matiang'i taking over from President Uhuru Kenyatta, despite Raila asking them to tone down on Friday.
A team led by Borabu MP Ben Momanyi on Sunday said Dr Matiang'i has what it takes to transform the country positively.
"He is the right candidate to take us forward. We are ready to rally for him across the country. This nation needs transformation and Matiang'i is ready for that," he said.
