Popular Kenyan fashion designer Khasoha Shiyenze has come under fire after she was accused of faking ovarian cancer.
According to a recent report by Citizen TV, Shiyenze who came into the limelight after styling Larry Madowo, raised more than Sh2 million through social media campaigns aimed at raising money for her alleged treatment.
Two of Shiyenze’s friends; Philip Oketch and Joyce Kakya, who helped her with the campaign to raise the money have come out to claim that the fashion designer does not suffer from cancer as she claims.
“Basically she asked me to help her. She told me that her cancer has recurred and she doesn’t have money so she needs money for treatment,” Philip Oketch, one of her friends, told Citizen TV.
According to Oketch, Shiyenze had lied to the public about receiving treatment at Aga Khan, MP Sha and Karen Hospitals.
In a short video believed to have been recorded by Oketch, Shiyenze is questioned about receiving the said treatment. She admitted that she has never received any treatment in India.
Shiyenze has been Larry Madowo's friend from the time he was working at NTV up to when he transferred to BBC.
The journalist has taken to social media on several occasions to rally support for Shiyenze. Larry’s brother, Charles Madowo, is also the lawyer representing Shiyenze.
Larry Madowo has however not commented on the issue.
