Nine people have been injured and 12 confirmed dead in Forolle and Sabareh areas of Marsabit County.
The Sunday attack by suspected Ethiopian militiamen was confirmed by Marsabit County Police Commander Steve Oloo.
Oloo said that several attacks were witnessed along Kenya-Ethiopia Forolle and Sabareh.
The attack happened at night when Kenyan herders were resting after grazing their livestock on Saturday.
Goats and sheep were stolen but security has been beefed up in the region. Kenyan police security officials are working with their Ethiopian counterparts to bring to book the culprits.
The border conflict has persisted for decades which has in the past led to the signing of peace agreements that have not been adhered to.
“This region which has even great potential is permanently at a crossroads. We have faced and continue to face conflicts and humanitarian crises. It remains both fragile and volatile. We remain as convinced as we were in 2015, when the cross-border agreement was signed, that an environment of peace in the Kenyan-Ethiopia border could offer to the region multifaceted opportunities for faster economic growth, poverty alleviation, employment creation, infrastructure development, energy cooperation and regional connectivity," said Mohamud Mohamed Ali, the Governor of Marsabit County as reported by The EastAfrican.
