Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti has now narrowed down his probe to Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) staff in the fuel theft saga at the firm.
Detectives are probing several members of staff at the firm as they seek to unmask the faces behind the welding of a pipe on the 20-inch KPC line and siphoning of an undisclosed amount of fuel in Mlolongo.
It has emerged that there is a likelihood that the suspected criminals colluded with insiders before committing the crime that saw KPC lose millions in six months.
Confirming the probe into the matter, KPC acting managing director Hudson Andambi said that the detectives have interrogated some of the officials at the firm as they seek to understand how the criminals siphoned the fuel without anyone noticing what was transpiring.
Andambi, however, did not mention the names of the officials who have already been quizzed over the matter.
He, however, noted that the staff members who were summoned are not suspects, adding that the DCI only wants them to give them information that can lead to the arrest of the persons behind the saga.
“They are not being summoned as suspects. They are just being questioned based on their work and to find out what they can contribute to efforts to nail the masterminds of this well-organised syndicate,” said Mr Andambi as quoted by the Nation.
