President Uhuru Kenyatta's exit from politics in 2022 will create a major political vacuum in Mt Kenya region that may not be filled in the next 30 years, political scientist Mutahi Ngunyi argues.

Already, succession battle has caused heated debate in the region which was voted for one of it's own since the introduction of multiparty politics in the country in 1992, with residents duvided on DP William Ruto's candidature.

And Ngunyi now says there will be divisions in the region for many years to come, citing the ongoing loyalty battle as just the beginning of many political fireworks in the coming years.

"Kikuyus will be OUT of POWER for 30 years after 2022. This EXPLAINS their ERATIC behaviour. They have to PREPARE for the next 30 years in just 36 Months. And if they BETRAY @WilliamsRuto, the VALLEY Kikuyus will vote independent of the MOUNTAIN Kikuyus." https://twitter.com/MutahiNgunyi/status/1084781480109395969?s=19.

In his public rallies, President Uhuru Kenyatta has often slammed leaders fuelling succession debates and is on record warning area leaders that he's not a lame duck president.

Recently, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria fired at Jubilee administration, accusing it of neglecting the vast region, remarks which ignited political fireworks.

In a rejoinder, a section of leaders led by former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, accused Kuria of being used by dark forces to undermine President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"The president is working for all Kenyans and as Mt Kenya, we are satisfied with his work. We shall continue to support his agenda. Those being used to undermine him will not succeed," Kenneth said.

There have been however calls from a section of leaders from the region urging President Uhuru Kenyatta to stay on after 2022 polls, suggestions which Uhuru has often rubbished.
