Nyali MP Mohammed Ali has encouraged Royal Media Services journalist Victor Kinuthia who was subjected to online ridicule on Monday evening after he covered live the arrest of Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro in Murang'a town for Citizen TV.
Kinuthia trended for a better part of the night after a section of netizens trolled and mocked him for what they referred to as 'below par reporting' and poor command of English.
However, Ali, popularly known as Jicho Pevu, has encouraged the young journalist not to be afraid and continue doing his best despite the backlash from netizens.
In a tweet on Tuesday, the MP, who is also a former journalist, urged Kinuthia to remain focused in his career since he was destined for greatness.
"You are a good man, I salute you. Forget the comments on social media and focus kabisa. Iko siku watakukumbuka na kukusifu ukiwa superstar (There is a day when they will remember and praise you as a superstar). Don't be afraid, one step at a time. All the best," Ali posted.
Kinuthia mostly reports for Inooro TV but found himself in a breaking news station and for the first time was called on duty to report for Citizen TV during prime time news.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, the young journalist admitted that the social media ridicule he experienced almost made him quit.
"I almost gave up when I found myself trending all over after yesterday's 9 pm news. But after receiving calls and texts from my bosses, colleagues, friends and fans I must say am encouraged," Kinuthia posted.
