Orange Democratic Movement party chairman John Mbadi on Friday paid tribute to Senator Sam Ongeri, arguing that he is a political genius who easily reads the mood of the people.
Elected first in 1988, Ongeri is one of the oldest MP in Parliament and his advice is often sought by senior ranking government officials and politicians.
He represented Nyaribari Masaba before being elected as Kosii Senator in 2017 for the first time on ODM ticket. Prof Sam Ongeri was also education minister.
At Riokindo High School on Friday, Mbadi said Ongeri's wisdom cannot be taken for granted, adding that Abagusii people always love him for his ability to calculate effectively.
"I never used to know why Abagusii love Mzee Ongeri. He was synonymous with party hopping but easily got elected. I saw him in KANU, PNU, Jubilee and now in ODM.
"I have since known this Mzee is loved by masses. Whatever he says, should be always taken seriously," said Mbadi, acknowledging that Ongeri's presence in ODM was important.
Currently, Prof Ongeri is one of the proponents of Abagusii unity, a move that has seen many politicians back Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i as spokesperson.
Also supporting the proposal to have Matiang'i carry the Abagusii flag are Senator Okong'o Mogeni, Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi, Governor John Nyagarama among others.
