Kisumu County is staring at a health crisis after medics in the county announced a strike in the next few days.
The Kenya Medical, Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) on Saturday issued a 14-day strike notice to the county government led by governor Anyang' Nyong'o.
Through branch chair Lameck Omweri, the medics demanded that the county government implement details of their recent Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
He said that the county government has 14 days to initiate deliberations with heads of the medic union, and has been ignoring attempts by the county to address the issue.
"Your Government has failed to implement the 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement, the Return to Work Formula signed on 24th, June 2019 and failed to respond to our demand letter dated 28th October 2019,” he said.
In the letter sent to media houses, he said that the government has for a long time shown its unwillingness to fulfil dictates of the June 2019 Return to Work Formula.
He said that upon the lapse of the negotiation window, medics in all public facilities will put down their tools.
