Lt Col (Rtd) Bernard Njiraini has been named the new managing director of the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS).
Trade Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya made the appointment on Friday.
Njiraini takes over from Charles Ongwae who was in January charged with conspiracy to deny the government tax revenue and abuse of office.
Njiraini was serving at the State agency as acting Managing Director before Munya made the appointment. Ongwae had earlier been replaced by Benard Nguyo on an acting capacity following his exit.
Police arrested Ongwae alongside 14 others in a tax evasion swoop in January. The arrest came after a directive from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
Ongwae and his co-accused were released on bond following charges of attempted murder and abuse of office.
CS Munya in January appointed Njiraini in the Trade Ministry affiliated Numerical Machining Complex Limited.
The new MD is expected to use his vast knowledge and experience to transform the State agency following his appointment.
He now has a task to clean the mess left behind by his successor and leave a good legacy when he completes his three-year tenure in office.
