Residents of Kirinyaga County were on Tuesday treated to a show of rare wealth and lavishness as the 6th Annual Devolution Conference kicked off in the county.
From huge V8 guzzlers to noisy choppers, the locals watched in envy as county bosses from the 47 counties and their officials trooped in for the event.
Most attention went to Mombasa county boss Hassan Joho who landed in style, arriving in a large convoy and his chase cars as his aides followed in other cars.
The same was the case with his Kilifi counterpart Amason Jeffa Kingi whose arrival managed to steal the people's attention from the large billboards erected by the roadsides depicting the images of the county chiefs.
The function was officially opened by President Uhuru Kenyatta who was flanked by his deputy William Ruto and other state officials including Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa.
At the function, the Head of State accused some of the county bosses of extravagance and poor management of public coffers as reported by the Standard.
He gave an example of a county that used Ksh600 million to oversight Ksh800 million, stressing on the need for Governors to be more careful with public monies.
Ruto is expected to officially close the event on Friday.
