Monday marked the new beginning of TV anchor Jacque Maribe's murder case following the exit of Justice Jessie Lessit, a soft spoken but tough judge on criminal justice.
And now, Justice James Wakiaga, a former Kisii resident judge takes over in a case that has threatened the career of a promising TV talent.
Top on his schedule on Wednesday would be listening and determining bail application for Maribe, who has been in custody for the last 15 days along with her fiance Joseph Irungu, over the murder of Monica Kimani.
Detectives have established that Mr. Irungu was at the crime scene during the fateful day and that Maribe was 'aware of the crime'.
Consequently, the prosecution believes that should Maribe be granted bail, the case could crumble given her 'strong influence within the media and political cycles'.
With all eyes now on Mr. Wakiaga, Wednesday will mark the beginning of a tough legal battle that would be presided by him in a case that the media has emphasized on.
In February this year, at the time political tensions had heightened, Justice Wakiaga granted controversial lawyer Miguna Miguna bail despite the state's objection.
At the time, many Kenyans had protested in a bid to have Miguna released and Wakiaga, despite the political temperatures and the state influence, ruled that Miguna to be given Sh50,000 bond.
He had been picked from his Runda house as the state accused him of treason after commissioning Raila Odinga oath at Uhuru Park.
Despite the ruling though, the government kicked Miguna Miguna out of the country to Canada, where he has remained for the last ten months.
