Speaking on Sunday during an exclusive prime time interview with Joseph Warungu, Mr Odinga said that the elections would be held until after the Build Bridges Initiative (BBI).

They had been slated for March this year but not anymore.

He added that the party's decision-making structures would arrive at another date.

"The ODM Party elections will not happen in March, they have been revised because of the ongoing matters of the BBI, " the ODM party leader said.

The elections are held to institute changes in the party and only card-carrying members of the party are allowed to vote.

Elections in ODM have in the past been marred by cases of violence and claims of well-connected individuals being rigged into positions of leadership.

Positions such as party leader, the deputy party leader, and secretary-general among others are usually up for grabs.

Mr Odinga has been elected the party's standard-bearer in every election that has been held.

The party leader upon election automatically becomes the flag-bearer in the presidential election.

Mr Odinga has remained coy on the question of whether he will seek the presidency come 2022.
