Kisumu All Stars head coach Henry Omino has given his side a thumbs up, despite being beaten by AFC Leopards in a Kenya Premier League (KPL) encounter at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, on Sunday.
Leopards won the match 1-0 courtesy of Whyvonne Isuza’s first-half goal.
Coach Omino said the result does not reflect what happened on the pitch, especially in the second half.
“The boys put up a spirited fight, especially in the second half. That was the best match my boys have played this year. The pitch was waterlogged and slippery and that is the reason we conceded the goal in the first half,” he in a phone interview on Monday afternoon.
“After the match, AFC Leopards coach (Andre Casa Mbungo) came to the dressing room and saluted the boys for the quality of the game they had displayed. He showed great sportsmanship,” he added.
The former Western Stima coach said his players are now picking up well after a difficult start to their maiden campaign in the league.
“The second leg will be better for us,” noted the veteran tactician.
Before meeting AFC Leopards, All Stars had registered back-to-back wins against Kariobangi Sharks and Wazito FC (the teams’ only wins this season).
The team is ranked 15th on the KPL log with 9 points after 11 matches. The side's next face Zoo Kericho on December 01.
