The five-day event that kicked-off on August 29, was opened by Cabinet Secretary, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Irrigation Mwangi Kiunjuri, on behalf of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The president was expected to open the annual event in the company of Governor Ali Hassan Joho, but failed to attend following the visit by Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Theresa May at State House, the first State Visit by a British PM in 30 years.

"Promoting Blue Economy is one of the Government's Big Four Agenda - The Government plans to boost fish production from 135,100MT to 396,571MT by 2022 through repairing jetties and fish landing sites, providing cooling facilities and eradicating illegal fishing," Kiunjuri said.

He urged fisherfolk to register themselves into associations to enable them reap fully from the government’s support.

The show allows showcasing of latest innovations and technologies.

Governor Ali Joho also snubbed the event and sent his Deputy, Dr William Kingi, who read his speech.
