Coast-based human rights organisation Muhuri led a youth training restitution forum in Mombasa targeting vulnerable youths threatened by radicalisation into criminal activities.
The forum was conducted in partnership with Search for Common Ground Kenya and other stakeholders with the aim of providing leadership and communication skills as well as conflict resolutions techniques to vulnerable youth to actively participate in peace and security issues in the community.
"The forum further aimed at building community/youth resilience to radicalisation and violent extremism among other forms of violent conflicts," Muhuri said on Wednesday.
The area of Mtwapa which boarders Mombasa and Kilifi counties faces a number challenges relating to Gender-Based Violence (GBV), drug abuse and defilement which contribute significantly to conflicts amongst the residents led by young people.
"This forum therefore sought to sensitise the participating youths on a number of conflict resolution skills."
Some of the topics discussed included understanding identity, adversarial and collaborative approach to conflict resolution, conflict analysis with emphasis on positive conflict transformation among others.
"We feel that continuous engagement of young people provides an opportunity to support their resilience in being part of the societal transformation narrative," added Muhuri in a communication, Wednesday.
