Garissa Township MP Aden Duale met with CS Fred Matiang’i on Thursday together with other leaders for a meeting where they discussed drought affecting the region.
On his Twitter, Duale said that the government was assessing the drought situation in North Eastern region following the failed rains.
Garissa is among the most affected counties after the long rains failed and only a few areas in the county received rain but was not enough to fill water sources.
Duale, who is also the National Assembly Majority Leader, said the government will also seek to address security issues in Garissa and other counties.
Last week, the government deployed more security officers in Fafi, Garissa County to improve security and also established a fully-fledged Galmagala Police Camp.
Dr Matiang’i said the government will engage various stakeholders with an aim to spur economic growth in the region.
The Interior Minister added that will also focus on government’s Big Four Agenda for counties in the region to benefit.
“As part of government’s routine engagement with various stakeholders to spur productivity growth in Kenya, my colleague CS Adan Mohamed and I met elected leaders from North Eastern to deliberate implementation of projects and programmes in the region, including those under the Big 4 Agenda,” posted Matiang’i on Twitter.
