The officer attached to Kenyerere Police Post reportedly shot himself in the stomach and nose in an incident that occurred on Thursday morning.

Reports on Standard indicate that the police officer shot himself in his residence, a few metres from the police post using an AK 47 Rifle.

Reacting to the story, Miguna speculated that poor working conditions and lack of proper training could have led to the officer turning the gun on himself.

"They are very poorly paid. They live in shelters worse than those despots house their dogs in. They are ill trained. They are over-worked," Miguna tweeted.

"Some of them have poor morals. They carry guns. We have a cocktail from hell....Ready to erupt," the vocal lawyer added.

Cases of police officers committing suicide have been on the rise in the past few months.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has blamed poor working relationship between senior and junior officers, and work challenges to be the cause of police officers taking their own lives.

“Some of these officers could be facing challenges such as disagreeing with their girlfriends. For a young person, they think it is the end of the world. They need guidance,” Matiangi said as quoted by the Star.
