The government set Sh3,200 as price for the produce during last year's harvesting season.

With maize farmers set for harvesting season, Chepkut now wants the government to buy maize from farmers at Sh4,000 per 90 kilogram bag.

This, the MP said will help to consummerate the market price and compensate farmers for their hard work.

“I would like the National government to buy maize from farmers for at least not less than Sh3,200 during this harvesting period,” said the MP during the Family Group Eldoret Half Marathon, Sunday.

The Jubilee allied legislator further noted that when farmers are paid well, there will be food security in the country.

“I also urge President Kenyatta to subsidise all farm inputs so that farmers can access them at a cheaper price thus reduce the cost of production which at the moment is very high,” added Chepkut.

The first-time MP who was elected on an independent ticket further congratulated President Kenyatta for ensuring that all farmers who delivered their produce to NCPB are paid their dues which have been pending for a year now.

Farmers from the region started receiving their payments from NCPB on Friday after President Kenyatta directed the CS Agriculture Mwangi Kiunjuri to ensure farmers are paid promptly.
